If you have ever found yourself delving into the world of honey, you’ve surely seen for yourself that the sticky substance has many uses, as well as purported health benefits. You are also likely aware of how absolutely crucial bees are to the environment. In fact there are droves of people who devote countless hours to making sure the insects do not become extinct. At this time, they are in fact endangered, and to think of the repercussions of their extinction is a very scary thought. Let’s talk about what that would look like, and also the many benefits that bees, and the honey they produce, have to offer.
You’ll also read how exploring the combination of kratom and honey helped Top Extracts to produce an exclusive (and very exciting!) new product! If that’s not enough, we’re also including a recipe that is sure to win over any kratom enthusiast!
Bees: Why They Are Critical in the Ecosystem
According to The Conversation:
Bees including honey bees, bumble bees and solitary bees – are very important because they pollinate food crops. Pollination is where insects move pollen from one plant to another, fertilising the plants so that they can produce fruit, vegetables, seeds and so on.
The extinction of bees would be, to put it mildly, catastrophic. As Britannica puts it, the loss of bees on Earth would result in “rippling effects throughout ecosystems.” Because so many of our earthly plants are pollinated only by bees, “this would alter the composition of their habitats and affect the food webs they are part of and would likely trigger additional extinctions or declines of dependent organisms.” This would then trail off into much larger issues, leading to the extinction of other species, such as birds, and perhaps most devastating, a disastrous, nearly unthinkable effect on our food chain. Thankfully there are many scientists and other people doing their best to prevent bees from becoming extinct, as their survival is vital to the ecosystem. You’ll also learn at the conclusion of this post how you can personally help!
Let’s Talk Honey!
You have likely noticed in recent years that health stores and even big box retailers are offering more honey products now than ever. And for great reason. People say that honey helps them with everything from seasonal allergies to the healing of wounds. By adding honey instead of white sugar or other sweeteners to, for example, coffee, it’ll not only make your drink tasty, but you’ll also be reaping the many benefits it contains. According to Healthline:
* [Honey can] protect your body from cell damage due to free radicals.
*Some types of honey have as many antioxidants as fruits and vegetables. Antioxidants help to protect your body from cell damage due to free radicals. Free radicals contribute to the aging process and may also contribute to the development of chronic diseases such as cancer and heart disease.
*[Honey may] kill unwanted bacteria and fungus. It naturally contains hydrogen peroxide, an antiseptic. Phytonutrients in honey are responsible for its antioxidant properties, as well as its antibacterial and antifungal power.
*Honey is sometimes used to treat digestive issues such as diarrhea, though there isn’t much research to show that it works. It’s proven to be effective as a treatment for Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) bacteria, though, a common cause of stomach ulcers.
*It’s also a potent prebiotic, meaning it nourishes the good bacteria that live in the intestines, which are crucial not only for digestion but overall health.
Last but not least, honey is widely known for helping to soothe sore throats. Combined with tea, it’s an excellent way to aid in getting your health back up to par when you’re feeling under the weather.
Kratom & Honey: What’s the Buzz About?
Kratom, according to the American Kratom Association (AKA) is a plant that is “properly classified as a food under the provisions of the U.S. Food Drug & Cosmetic Act.”
Many cite the herb, which belongs to the same plant family as coffee, as being extremely helpful with everything from physical and mental well-being, to providing energy similar to caffeine, minus the jitters.
The history of kratom dates back hundreds of years in Southeast Asia, the only region in the world where it naturally thrives.
“The product itself has been used in the country for centuries, but is not packaged and sold commercially,” Wayne Forrest, President of the American Indonesian Chamber of Commerce, told Top Extracts in an interview.
“It’s used primarily as a household medicinal product like an herbalist would have.”
The use of medicinal herbs and botanicals also dates far back into Indonesia’s history. Western medicine is only beginning to start emerging in the country, a stark contrast from the United States, where kratom has only recently gained popularity.
It only seems natural that kratom and honey would mix well together, since both are said to offer a plethora of natural benefits. In addition, honey is thought to increase the bioavailability of kratom.
Jim Sourek, Owner of Top Extracts, explained that he’s “been researching honey for the past few years,” which has led to his latest innovative product, The Original Kratom Honey Stix. Sourek initially began studying honey as a tool for fighting seasonal allergies. It was during this time that it clicked…honey and kratom work exceptionally well when combined! He continued:
At the time, I was also taking kratom in order to help enhance my mood levels when I began using honey for seasonal allergies. I then realized that the combination of the two together not only gave me natural energy, but it also took care of my mood! After mentioning this to several customers, I discovered that they were also combining both products in the same way that I was. That is when I decided to try and combine honey, along with kratom extract, in a format that is discrete and easy to consume. From idea to shelf, the process took about a year. This was primarily due to packaging constraints and making sure I was partnering with only the best honey suppliers. After many packaging attempts, I realized that a honey straw mixed with kratom was the combination I had been looking for all along, and it turned out better than I could ever imagine.
Top Extracts won’t stop with The Original Honey Stix, which Sourek holds a patent for, adding that the company has “big plans for kratom and novelty items in the future.”
How to Make Kratom Honey Balls
Now that you know how well kratom and honey go together, we’d like to share a special recipe with you. Feel free to be as creative as you’d like, and note that alternate ingredients we think pair well are starred at the bottom.
Supplies & Ingredients to Get Started:
*Your Desired/Favorite Kratom Strain
*Baking Spatula or Spoon
Measure out your desired amount of kratom (a scale works great for this), it should be the same as your usual dosage. Carefully place kratom into your mixing bowl. Next, add a small amount of honey, and mix using your baking spatula or spoon. The mixture should be uniform…if it seems too dry, add a drop of honey at a time until it becomes ideal. You will then use your hands to form a ball. Congrats, you’ve made your first kratom honey treat…ENJOY!
Note: You can also choose to get even more creative by incorporating peanut butter, chocolate, or even powdered sugar into the mix.
How You Can Help the Conservation of Bees
There are many ways that you can help to make sure our bee friends never see extinction! By making just small efforts, you will not only be helping bees, but in turn you’ll be making a difference for the entire Earth and its future! Here are just a few ideas that can get you well on your way, as suggested, in part, per The Bee Conservancy:
* Plant a bee-friendly garden! You can do this on your own as a sort of meditative activity, or get the family involved. Either way it’s a win/win!
* Just say NO to chemicals and pesticides! Going organic is always the best option, whenever at all possible. Stick to only purchasing gardening/flower products that are certified organic. This keeps us all healthier!
* Support your local beekeepers! This is my favorite. Mmmm, did someone say honey toast? There are so many ways to enjoy the sticky substance, and the best part is that you will be giving back to those who are putting forth efforts to make the Earth a better place.
